Long Awaited Medium-Sized Venue Announced For Dunedin

08 September 2023 - 0 Comments

A new 500 person capacity venue for touring acts will open in Dunedin on the 2nd December, 2023.

For many years there has been a desperate need to fill the void left by the closure of historical venues like Sammy’s. In an area with minimal noise restrictions, new venue Errick’s is set to catapult Dunedin back onto the touring act circuit.

Significant investment is being made to provide excellent performance facilities and logistical support for promoters and artists. “We are going to make sure we have great sound production, staging, backline lighting and audiovisuals,” said Ed Lobo. “We also have the added bonus of on-site luxury accommodation for twelve people that artists and promoters will absolutely love,” he added.

The Lobo family (Mili, Michelle & Ed) will run the entire operation as a collective with Ed Lobo’s in-house promotions company Ed & The Shadow Boys Productions looking after bookings and helping promoters and artists deliver excellent quality entertainment through the venue.

The Lobo’s are experienced restaurant and bar owners and have put together numerous sell-out festival events in recent years. Their festivals have hosted artists from Australia and Europe as well as popular New Zealand and local acts; the most recent being The Black Seeds at a sold out Lobofest festival in Dunedin earlier this year.

Whilst live music and touring bands are a big focus for the venue, Errick’s will also be designed to host almost any type of function; from corporate and conference to weddings and celebrations.

Venue owner Mili Lobo-Oxley understands that the days of single-purpose venues of this size in New Zealand no longer exist. “We knew right from the start that if the venue was going to be sustainable long term, it had to be able to handle a broad range of functions”, said Mili. “One of the fantastic aspects of the location is the unique luxury on-site accommodation as well. It can be used to host touring musicians, guest speakers, wedding guests or any travelling guests”, she added.

As hospitality specialists, the Lobo’s are experienced, well organised and know how to provide excellent catering, beverage and event management. A promoters, Ed & The Shadow Boys Productions have etched out a reputation as trailblazers in support of the Dunedin and New Zealand music scenes. They are perfectly placed to ensure that Errick’s is a fantastic success for both punters and the artistic community alike.

The venue will open with a superb New Zealand act on 2nd December 2023, and is now actively seeking bookings from promoters and artists.
