Over 110 bands have now competed live at Battle of the Bands National Championship 2009 events. Some amazing new talent has been discovered at the 30 live events that have already taken place at NZ’s best venues up and down the country.
The semi finals and regional finals are now taking place, music enthusiasts are urged to check out the talent on display at the last of this year’s Battle events.
Last Saturday (14th) saw the first of the regional finals at the Kingslander in Auckland with 6 very promising bands battling for their spot on the national final. After a packed house, 6 exciting performances and an extremely tough judging decision later; the first 2 National Finalists were confirmed.
Northland band SOLJAH and Central Auckland’s SNAGON impressed both judges and the crowd, taking out the top spots and earning their place in the National Final.
This week both the Waikato / Bay of Plenty region and South Auckland region conclude with the regional finals taking place on Thursday 19th at Axces Bar, Hamilton, and Friday 20th at
Stampede Bar and Grill, Papakura. Featuring the best of entrants from the B.O.P and Waikato region Thursday’s Hamilton based regional final will host 8 bands battling for 2 spots at the National Final. South Auckland’s Friday night final features 5 bands from a wide spectrum of musical styles; both shows are promising to be a great night of entertainment.
The semi finals continue at Al’s Bar, Christchurch this Wednesday 18th & Friday 27th, The Kings Arms, Auckland on Thursday 19th & Thursday 26th and Bodega, Wellington on Thursday 19th & Wednesday 25th.
Regional eliminations culminate with The Regional Finals for Al’s Bar, Bodega and Kings Arms; ALL on Saturday 5th December.
The National Final is at the King's Arms in Auckland on December 19th.
12 bands from Northland to Southland will be featured at the National Final. Tickets are available from www.eventfinder.co.nz. The winning band will receive a host of goodies including professional recording time, live appearances, musical equipment and more.
This year's championship also saw the introduction of the people's choice addition to the judging panel, allowing for greater involvement by the fans in determining the eventual winning line up, this new initiative proved to be a hit with audiences who enjoyed having their say…
