Something They Call Myth are back with playful popper 'Counting Friends'

After a 2 year-long hiatus, indie-folk/pop duo Something They Call Myth are coming back with new music, kicking off this new chapter with the playful and sweet-sounding single Counting Friends.

The bouncy, syncopated piano riff sets a light-hearted tone to the overall production, artfully masking the vulnerability of the subject matter. The song tells a story about two best friends, exploring the growing pains and insecurities that develop as they progress through life and make new connections. While this can be exciting, sometimes we just want things to stay exactly as they are. The playful lyrics and feel of the song make a heavy subject easier to talk about, and can also be taken as a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The release of Counting Friends is accompanied by a fun music video, based around the concept of Lea and Clarissa from Something They Call Myth literally “making” new friends. The music video was shot at the creative community hub, MoveSpace, in Auckland by filmmaker Talia Hazelwood, who also directed and edited it.
