Music News - Aotearoa Artist Venice Qin Releases Debut Album 'Alien'

With her debut EP, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Venice Qin introduces herself as a new breed of pop artist on the rise. Alien exudes confidence, acceptance, individuality, powerful storytelling and pride in her Chinese / NZ heritage.
Speaking on the EP, Venice says, “When I listen to the Alien EP, I hear a ruthlessly confident, powerful, silly individual who is searching for acceptance and a sense of belonging. At the end of the creation of this EP, I’ve concluded that I belong everywhere and nowhere at the same time... and because I’m an Aquarius, I love that! All the songs are so different in character and tone, but inside it all, I hear me; each track a small capture of who I am (at this point anyway).”
Across the EP, Venice injects clear pop elements while creating beautiful light and shade by intertwining dance floor electronica and melodic synth moments to create a soundscape that is wholly her own.
“Somebody New shows my confidence with authenticity, Asshole and Trophy Wife are my silly camp children that won’t take themselves too seriously. Alien and Not Crying have come out of vulnerability and lessons I’ve learnt about myself during therapy over the past year.”
The EP comes with Villain as the focus single. “Villain I believe is a beautiful combination of strength, weakness, and wondering if people will one day be able to see everything that I am and still love me for it,” Venice reflects.
Alien is the true depiction of accepting your individuality and celebrating creativity, culture and community.
“This body of work is a testament to my friends and family for letting me grow into who I am meant to be in this moment, Venice says. “It is here because of my two main collaborators, my manager/creative partner Benn Jae and my producer Ben Malone, who have infinite patience for me and given me the gifts of their talents. They have championed my voice and let it soar. I am so proud of who I am and who I’m becoming, and I can’t wait to share this body of work as my expression.”
