Off the back of a support slot for Robbie Williams and her top ten single Libra, Napier-born, Wellington-based singer-songwriter Danica Bryant has set her sights on a debut full-length album, and she’s put the call out to her fans to help fundraise.
Performing since childhood from dive bars to national festivals, Bryant now boasts two EPs, opening slots for acts like Elton John and Foreigner, and over 20,000 followers on TikTok, all conquered without a record label. It’s clear there’s a hunger for Danica’s fresh sound, blending emotional social commentary with a catchy pop-rock-folk sound.
Bryant’s debut album will feature approximately twelve tracks encompassing youth in the ever-complicated modern age. Themes of celebrity culture, social media, mental health and gender and sexuality craft a compelling musical story that is both deeply relatable yet incredibly unique. The collection will be created alongside Bryant’s close knit band, Tyler Blythe and Nat Bennett, and longtime producer and co-writer Jonny Avery.
Whilst Bryant’s achievements speak to how much a musician can achieve as an independent artist, her debut album seeks fundraising to cover costs in production, mixing, mastering, publicity, visuals and more. This fundraiser sets a goal of $12,000, opening on the 10th of January in support of Bryant’s headlining slot at Wellington’s Gardens Magic festival, and closing at the end of February.
Fundraiser participants will forever entwine themselves with this singer-songwriter’s loving, supportive community of alternative pop music lovers, knowing their donation makes a significant difference to the quality of this promising musician’s defining work. Donations to the Boosted campaign are encouraged to amplify Danica Bryant as Aotearoa’s most strange and wonderful new voice in pop.
