Quickly ascending Bay of Plenty artist Sophie-Maude has today unveiled her emotional rollercoaster of a single ‘Vertigo’.

Slick pop production, stacked synths, swirling backing vocals and a hook-laden chorus, Vertigo sonically emulates the feeling of being on an “emotional rollercoaster”. Sophie-Maude’s vocal prowess is undeniable, as she emotes and “reflects on the journey of a first love, to a forgotten love.”
Following on from popular singles Goosebumps and Take Me Away (#1 Official Hot NZ Single Chart, RadioScope NZ Airplay, ZM Locals Only), Vertigo was co-written with and produced by Ben Malone. They recorded at Parachute Studios in Auckland before having it mastered by Kog Studios. “Ben and I had been in touch and decided to meet for a couple of sessions,” says Sophie-Maude. “This turned into two full days and two finished songs! I’m still at the start of my career and really enjoy working with different people, such as Ben. Every experience teaches me something new that will eventually be reflected in my own unique style.”
Building up to today’s single release, Sophie-Maude has released a series of virtually-filmed reels across her socials.
Made with long-time collaborator Ash Rogers, the reels were made to visually capture the dizzy, euphoric feeling of vertigo. “Love can be blurry and overwhelming, causing you to feel dizzy, so we wanted to portray these effects through short videos,” explains Sophie-Maude. “Ash and I always have the best time filming together - it’s like a comedy show to us! We try to not take it all too seriously, having as much fun as we can, but at the same time making sure that we get all the takes and scenes needed for the editing process.”
Sophie-Maude first emerged on the R&B-pop scene with singles Comfortable, Insane and Only One. She also features on renowned Kiwi act Deadbeat’s new single Diamonds alongside hip-hop producer and DJ, Joey illah. Sophie-Maude is a multi-talented artist at the fulcrum of an evolving R&B and pop scene. Already selling out headline shows in Aotearoa, she recently performed as part of Tāmaki Makaurau’s Christmas in the Park, and has opened for Ōtautahi pop princess PRINS and local legend Hollie Smith. With a drive, focus and undeniable tenacity for her music career, Sophie-Maude is a talented enigma who is here to reshape and leave an indelible mark in the industry.
