No Cigar release new video for 'Father Of Mine'

23 January 2024 - 0 Comments

Upon suggestion from Arthur's brother, Willy, Tim, Arthur and Tom made their way across town to film before the sun disappeared, as it does quickly in London in mid-November. With only two or three shots at it, the boys backtracked through the cemetery, Arthur guiding Tim (cameraman) to avoid tree roots and puddles, while brother Tom expertly diverted cemetery traffic to avoid corrupting the shot.

Spending the summer performing the NZ festival circuit, No Cigar will be continuing to tour their latest album with a string of shows in Aotearoa and Australia. The band will be taking their live show to Wellington, performing at San Fran on February 2, before heading to Auckland to perform at the Hollywood on February 10.

Aotearoa’s No Cigar have been riding high on the success of their recently released album The Great Escape, with the record currently sitting at #9 on the Official Top 20 NZ Albums Chart. With two shows scheduled in Aotearoa in February, the band show no signs of slowing down, today releasing their captivating latest video for the track Father Of Mine.

Directed, filmed and edited by Tim Cotton, the black and white visuals for Father Of Mine were filmed as a single shot in the Abney Park Cemetery, in Stoke Newington, London. The one-take nature of the video reflects how the song came together during their writing sessions in Mangawhai, with No Cigar writing the track in “what was essentially one take, with our friend Jono Lee adding bits of wizardry on the guitar.”

“The half-speed video plays into the anticipatory nature of the song; you can sense some sort of epicness is brewing throughout, which manifests in Willy's performance in both the song and video” explains Arthur.

Having tried multiple other backdrops during their week at Battery Studios in London, it came down to their last day before returning home, before they were confident that the cemetery was the perfect location for the shot.
