Sometimes life is captured in audio. Anti Matter wanted to create a soundscape of a moment in time, when writing Broken Skin & Tattoos.
Courtney Newbold, who operates under the moniker Anti Matter, delivers a longing vocal, over a yearning trap track. A sound she had in mind when writing the song.
She says: “It’s nostalgia. Wanting to go back to the moments you fell in love with someone, before you figure out their flaws and you lose your connection. Wanting to pause time and stay in that moment. Because when you try to go back and recreate it, it’s gone.”
Broken Skin & Tattoos is produced by Yung Cortex, a staple in the emo rap scene, and most notably, a producer of Lil Peep. Anti Matter struck a 3 song deal with him, for some melancholy glory, of which this is the first song to be released.
Anti Matter is a producer and vocalist from Auckland, New Zealand. From beginnings as a punk/electronic act, she found a love for emo trap and adjacent genres, after falling in love with artists like Lil Peep, Ghostemane and Wicca Phase Springs Eternal. She now produces for solo projects and for duo Lux Graves. Anti Matter writes for the outsiders, with lyrics about dark nostalgia, melancholy, and craving for emotional understanding . She favours synths and guitars with gloomy riffs.
