On February the 24th, Capricore are set to release their very first single Dreamer to all streaming platforms.
“Probably the best and most important band to come out of the North Shore in decades! Voice of an angel, with lyrics to die for.” - Paul Ellis, record producer, manager, radio-host
Dreamer was recorded amongst three different studios during the winter of 2023, engineered by Jacob Rush, Robert Nute, and Dave Atai (well known for his work in Nesian Mystik). Capricore also worked in close collaboration with kiwi-rock icon Pete Werren of DD Smash fame, who sat in the role of producer. The band described his contribution to the project as “being the driving force behind Capricore’s artistic performance.” Vocalist Aidan Ripley went on to say “he was like our version of Rick Ruben. Our own personal music guru.”
The track itself serves as a blend between dream-rock and a classic Kiwiana sound, shrouded in angelic vocals and atmospheric synths, while still maintaining a raw live mix. The group took influence from the Foo Fighters for their recording process, removing the click track from the session and keeping as much of the live performance as possible. Though this is the case, there is a certain modern quality to Dreamer as well. The band experimented with the incorporation of 808 bass, as well as sampling filtered guitar slides.
Lyricist Aidan Ripley stated that he wrote Dreamer with the intention of creating an abstract love song. “I wanted to write about love in an almost esoteric way. But at the same time, create something that was sweet and genuine. Bjork was a major influence on me lyrically for this track.”
Dreamer will be released to all streaming platforms February 24th, accompanied with an official visualiser.
“The immediately apparent strength in this song is the striking melodic work, which makes for an engaging and captivating listen. 'Dreamer' is a very strong tune, and an emphatic statement for a debut release.” - DMY Foundation
