An appearance on 95bFM’s fancy new band, a feature on Muzic.net.nz, and several sold-out gigs, including an impressive abandoned pool gig in December 2022, are just some of the achievements Parkdale have under their belt in their three-year existence. Drummer William Tinnock-Jones and Bassist Emma Wagner make up the rhythm section, with Guitarists Liam Beasley and Solomon Woods (who is also the singer) helming the melodies. Hesitate is their first release since taking out Smokefree Rockquest 2023, and proves to be an anthem reminiscent of Sheffield songsmiths The Arctic Monkeys. Powerful, Catchy and finished off with just the right amount of alternative flair.
Hot on the heels of their Smokefree Rockquest victory, Hesitate follows 2 successful singles in Cruel (Wills summer song) and Serenade, which have accumulated over 60,000 streams on Spotify alone. On the topic of the new single, Solomon Woods says “Hesitate is significant to us not only because it is a step away from our previous releases in that it’s less traditionally structured/hook-based and more of an artistic, conceptual song. It’s also the first song we’ve released as a four-piece, with Liam joining on guitar. We think it’s quite fitting, as you can hear pieces of each member throughout the track; all four of us have contributed to its identity and we hope you like it as much as we do”.
Described by Muzic.net.nz writer Lucy Gray had high praises for the band. “Up and coming in the bustling Auckland music scene, the 2023 Smokefree Rockquest Winner, Parkdale, is a band to watch. This indie-rock four-piece has an intentional and well-crafted sound, drawing inspiration from bands such as The Backseat Lovers and Arctic Monkeys”.
Hesitate was recorded at Big Fan studios in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), where Parkdale worked with producer - mentor Chris Mac (Six60), and engineer Noema Te Hau III.
