Written and performed in collaboration with esteemed US indie-rock band Now Now, Permanent Holiday serves as a sequel to Powers’ recently released single Best For You.
“Permanent Holiday is a reflection on a decade of my life, seen through the lens of a cherished friendship. Serving as a sequel to Best For You, it carries a deep sense of nostalgia for a time that can never be recovered,” says Powers.
Today’s single is the sixth instalment to be unveiled from Powers’ upcoming LP A Tyrant Crying In Private, out May 17. With every release comes another look into understanding the full picture of the record; each release receiving local media support. Li Feat. Chelsea Jade debuted to support from RNZ, Newstalk ZB, Rolling Stone Magazine, Sniffers and more; Falling Down The Stairs reaching #10 on the Hot 20 NZ Singles upon release.
Powers’ formative years in New Zealand are punctuated by the meteoric rise of The Naked & Famous; where in 2010, they burst from hometown heroes into international stardom with their double platinum, synth-soaked superhit Young Blood. In following years, The Naked & Famous would go on to release four more albums featuring critically acclaimed Hearts Like Ours and Higher. Now finally stepping out from behind the curtain, Powers’ solo debut positions him centerstage, breathing life into an airless, electronic soundscape that cannot be ignored.
A Tyrant Crying In Private features celebrated artists such as Julien Baker, Chelsea Jade, Rob Moose, Luna Shadows and Now Now.
