Born and raised Raetihi reggae artist Brutha Rodz, has today released his uplifting new single Lovin’ You, with production by Israel Starr.

Listen to Lovin’ You  HERE

A laid-back, reggae feel sets a heartwarming tone for the song’s catchy, summer vibes. Lovin’ You is an emotional pick-me-up; a snapshot of Brutha Rodz’ heart in a specific moment, capturing the pure joy he felt for the arrival of his son.

Lovin’ You is about how my son makes me feel now that he's here,” says Brutha Rodz. “I just had all these thoughts and feelings about my son and wanted to write it down and talk to him. I was just dreaming about him and what he was gonna look like, what kind of person he'll be, whether he'll be like his Mum or his Dad or both and even what kind of Dad I'm going to be for him. I had my first son in October last year and this waiata is my korero to him.”

The initial beat for the track was sent to Brutha Rodz from esteemed producer Israel Starr, which Brutha Roddz then used to write the lyrics and melody to. After recording the kupu at his home in Ohakune, the track was sent back to Israel for final production.

Brutha Rodz has just kicked off his six-date tour of Aotearoa’s North Island, having recently performed in Hamilton, and Ohakune. He’ll be performing tonight, Friday April 19, in Auckland to celebrate today’s single release at Sevenonetwo.

He’ll then continue the tour on Saturday April 20 in Ruakaka, Friday April 26 in Whanganui, before wrapping up the tour on Saturday April 27 in Wellington.

Tickets available from the venues or online at Ticketspace.

Being brought up by his Mum on Blues, Motown, RnB, Pop and a bit of Reggae, it wasn’t until Katchafire dropped their first big single Giddy Up during Brutha Rodz’ (aka Rodney Te Tawhero) teenage years, that he became enthralled with NZ Reggae. House of Shem then followed, becoming a pivotal inspiration and influence for what would become Brutha Rodz’ sound. With over 100k monthly Spotify listeners and his 2021 single Heart Of A Lion racking up over 5 million streams on Spotify alone, Brutha Rodz is without a doubt an artist quickly rising in the Aotearoa music scene.
