It's been 2 and a half years since their last release but now Moonflower are returning with an absolute banger of a single ahead of their EP release.
Feed the Fire was written by singer/drummer Bunny Reid (Nicole Schaap), bassists Josh Fairless and guitarist Hamish Ellis. Moonflower formed in 2017 and after a few members coming and going, their current lineup has been solid since 2020.
The self-funded project was expertly recorded and mixed by Thom O'Connor at Orange Studios in Christchurch and mastered by the late Karl Wootton from Merrin/Studio 56 .The recording truly captures the mesmerizing power of Bunny's voice and the impeccable groove that the band creates together. It's a fantastic representation of their electrifying live sound.
Moonflower have opened for some great NZ bands such as Pieces of Molly, Sea Mouse and Earth Tongue. They are still working hard to break through the noise and get in front of even bigger audiences. That's where the idea for the lyrics in Feed the Fire came from. Everyone that sees them play live gets blown away and instantly becomes a fan, however, getting people to shows isn't always that easy. This catchy and soulful tune speaks from the band's perspective, emphasizing the challenges of performing to empty venues and the importance of persevering no matter the circumstances. It's a powerful reminder to fellow musicians to keep pushing forward.
The release will be followed by an EP titled Season of the Fire, set to be released this July.
Feed the Fire is available now on all streaming platforms.
