New Zealand prog maestros Claemus bring a more structured and deliberate side to the fray with Mercurial. The EP delivers a crisp and tight songs bonded with huge production and a mouth-watering mix from Australia’s iconic Forrester Savell.
Guitarist, vocalist and principal song writer, Taylor Hemson explains what a departure Mercurial is from previous releases, “with most of our releases to date, we’ve always tried to avoid convention, in favour of, for lack of a better description, ‘going where the song takes us’. We’ve still done this with Mercurial, but we’ve packaged the songs in a way more listeners would be familiar."
Claemus had a fantastic 2023, as only support act for Plini and his/their New Zealand tour dates – a true bucket list moment for the Claemus. They followed these shows with two more support shows alongside Australia’s Thornhill and Alt. and then went into their own nationwide Shallow tour, linking up again with Pull Down the Sun, Elidi and Coridian.
Claemus concluded their stellar year with a spot on the Rock Monsters festival, headlined by Northlane. With previous support slots alongside The Ocean, Intervals, Caligula’s Horse, Polaris and P.O.D., Claemus have entrenched themselves as the premier progressive metal act in New Zealand. 2024 is shaping up much the same with shows alongside Banks Arcade, Written by Wolves and once again with Australia’s prog deities, Caligula’s Horse, in July.
