Written by Wolves Announce Long-Awaited New Album 'The Lighthouse'

16 May 2024 - 0 Comments

New Zealand’s highest streaming rock band Written By Wolves have announced their brand new album The Lighthouse, set for release on 26th July, and released a music video for track Please, Just Breathe.

Directed by Josh Mabie, who directed previous music videos for the band, the Please, Just Breathe music video is a loose cinematic representation of the story behind the song about the day when vocalist Michael Murphy’s dad died and everything he went through to try and be at his bedside before he passed. “This song documents everything I felt and thought in that time and the emphatic plea for him to please, just breathe until I could get to him...”, says Murphy. “Ultimately, the song is a realisation that the time we have together is finite and how important it is not to take those moments together for granted,” he adds.

The Lighthouse (self-release) is a concept album that picks up where Secrets (the band´s 2019 debut album) left off. Whereas ‘Secrets’ was about the thoughts and feelings that we don’t feel comfortable talking about and the effect that has on our mental health, The Lighthouse is about what pulls you out of those dark places. It looks at the concept of home – not necessarily a physical place, but the one that makes you feel comfortable, that puts you at ease and makes you feel safe. The Lighthouse is about finding the things that lead you back to that concept of home when you are in your darkest moments.

The upcoming genre-bending 13-track album was recorded and produced in LA with Gladius James (Justin Bieber, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony) and serves as a snapshot of Written By Wolves right now, the truest representation of their current sound, and a taste of where they might go in the future…
