Ōtautahi native Harry Burt will mark the end of NZ Music Month with the release of his electric pop single Heads Down Thumbs Up on the 31st of May.
After writing and releasing music within the folk/singer-songwriter space this single is a clear change in direction and sound for the Christchurch singer. Harry dives into his pursuit to be perceived as cool and the unspoken likeability that artists should possess in order to find success in the industry. Wrapped in themes of child-like innocence and endless optimism, Harry comes to the conclusion that letting go of his “pursuit of coolness” is the solution to his problem.
“It’s interesting how comfortable and confident you become when you stop caring what others might think. Everyone is so focused on their own lives and journeys to care that much about you,” says Harry. Produced by LEVI the song is decorated in colorful guitar lines and synthesizers, driven by a funky bassline and endless drum beat. This song aims to unlock the optimist and inner child within everyone who listens.
The release of Heads Down Thumbs Up on the 31st May begins a new chapter in the world of Harry Burt. Harry describing this song as “a love letter to artists and their inner-child”. This single will be the first to be released off his upcoming EP to be released later this year. Harry looks forward to surprising his listeners with a new sound that he believes is his best work to date.
