Rising Ōtautahi pop-rock sensation Castaway returns with their latest single, Daisy. A departure from their recent high-energy releases Supernova and Satellite, Daisy showcases a more melancholic and emotive side, offering listeners a heartfelt journey through longing and connection.
Having captured the attention of audiences with their energetic performances, Castaway is set to open for Drax Project at the Christchurch Town Hall on June 29th, further solidifying their presence in the New Zealand music scene.
Working alongside producer Will McGillivray (Goodwill) and LOHO Studios, renowned for his work with Bexy and There’s A Tuesday, Castaway poured their hearts into Daisy. McGillivray's warmth and openness allowed the band to explore new depths, culminating in a track that delivers a blend of heartfelt lyrics and infectious melodies, inviting fans to immerse themselves in Castaway's dynamic sound.
Inspired by the anthemic power of Coldplay and the pop sensibility of Niall Horan, Daisy has a message of connection and remembrance. "As we grapple with loss and separation, Daisy serves as a call out to those we hold dear," explains the band. "Whether it's a breakup, the loss of a loved one, or simply missing an old friend, Daisy invites listeners to connect through shared experiences."
The creative process behind Daisy was a labour of love for the band, with guitarist Rhys setting the stage in their shared lounge, strumming away on the acoustic guitar. "The sweetness and emotion of the chords instantly connected with us," shares Rhys. Saxophonist Jack adds, "The melody and lyrics finally came to me while I was making dinner, and the song started taking shape."
One of the standout moments of the single is the powerful chorus, where all five members of Castaway join forces in harmony. "Singing together was a profound experience," reflects the band. "It's about feeling connected and sharing a moment of unity with our listeners."
Hailing from the picturesque city of Ōtautahi, New Zealand, Castaway comprises Jackson on guitar and vocals, Joe on drums and vocals, Jack on saxophone and keys, Rhys on guitar and backing vocals, and Austen on bass. Together, they craft a sound that mirrors the diverse landscapes surrounding them, capturing the essence of their homeland in each note.
Castaway invites fans of bands such as The Killers, Coldplay, Inhaler, and The 1975 to join them on their musical journey. As they gear up for their EP release Nondual, Castaway promises an exciting line-up of releases that will captivate audiences around the globe.
Daisy is available on all streaming platforms on Friday 7th June.
