Tāmaki Makaurau artist Elisa releases her sophomore single What Am I.
Recorded and produced by close friends Jess Penson and Carly Gill of Kédu Carlö, this project comes from a place of deep collaborative connection. The song dives into the artists conditioning and journey within intimacy, alongside the feeling of being perceived by others in a less than perfect light. In this sophomore single Elisa uncovers wounds and allows vulnerability to come to the surface to offer conversation and connection between artist and listener.
Bahamian-born Tāmaki-bred muso Elisa is a wonderful and multifaceted artist. As a UoA Jazz school graduate Elisa began her career in the local jazz scene; from performing with her peers in bars and Creative Jazz Club (CJC) shows to singing with the AMA nominated Jazz collective Alchemy. Last year she featured as a songwriter in the Exploding Rainbow Orchestra showcase at neck of the woods, and also had the opportunity to sing on an international stage in Shanghai with collaborator and longtime mentor Nathan Haines.
Elisa has utilised her technical abilities gained within her degree to develop her dynamic and alternative sonic pallet. She presents her audience with stories of separation, humanity’s recklessness, the highs and lows in love as well as all the joys this fickle life can bring. With her versatile and genre bending motifs, Elisa puts out a sound that is fresh, making her a note worthy and exciting artist.
