Tāmaki Makaurau's Celine today unleash their blistering new pop-punk song Thanks For Sharing, and have announced an Auckland show with Hail, Meteor! and Pumice on Saturday June 22nd at Whammy Backroom.
Celine blend outsider pop, noise-rock, and golden-era Flying Nun influences to colour their their sonic palette. Add melancholic vocals and big guitars, and you end up with a band who deliver both raw emotion and powerful melodies.
And yes, you read the headline correctly: at the June 22nd show, David Mitchell of The 3Ds joining Celine on guitar.
Thanks For Sharing is the first single from their forthcoming record, and is recorded and produced by the legendary Dale Cotton (The Bats, HDU, The Subliminals, Bachelorette and many more). Visit Dale's website here.
Lyricist Rob Lundon says of the song, "Basically I was coming out of quite a full on decade or more of my life, and it’s the story of a girl I met, and that relationship. In some ways it was quite good, and in some ways quite bad: a train wreck meets a car wreck. There’s an element of humour obviously, and she did make me sell my guns which was possibly not such a bad thing..."
Most recently, Celine supported Mogwai at The Powerstation, and their latest (self-titled) EP is available now from Flying Out.
Following on from their debut 2022 EP The Last Days of Evolution, the Celine EP was mixed by New York-based engineer Andrew Schneider, and mastered by Bob Weston in Chicago.

Te Whanganui-a-tara's Hail, Meteor! are travelling up the line to join Tāmaki Makaurau's Celine and Pumice for a night of reverb drenched post-punk and plenty of improvised noise. This will be a night of dark harmony, sparking guitars and dreaming pop.
Hail, Meteor!, are bringing their epic slabs of heavy atmosphere and angel-eyed post-rock – they're bleeding out new songs and can't wait to hit play them. To dive into their music, you can listen to their debut album 4th Horse (released April 2023), and is available on Bandcamp and all streaming services.
Celine blends outsider pop, noise-rock, and golden-era Flying Nun influences to create a unique sonic palette. David Mitchell of 3Ds fame joins the band to bring you an evening of driving, spitting and screaming saturated sounds.
Pumice is enjoying a lengthy stint as a three-piece, and currently features Jade Farley (violin, keyboards, vocals), Rosy Parlane (bass) and Stefan Neville (guitar, drums, banjolele, vocals). The songs are full, with tangled parts, weeping sores and worn out whimsy. A new 2x CD retrospective Miserable Poison (1996-2021) is out now on Swedish label Fordamning Arkiv.
