The MLT Songwriting Awards committee is thrilled with the caliber of international songwriting icons that are coming to Gore for the 2010 MLT Songwriting Seminar and Awards this year.
Mike Hood, trustee for the MLT Songwriting Awards explained, “The presenters and special guests for this year’s seminar and awards are recognised within the music industry as the best at what they do - we are delighted to have Pat Pattison, Chanelle Davis, Mike Moroneyand Anthony Healey from APRA coming to Gore for the seminar and the awards.”
Pat Pattison is an author, clinician and Berklee Professor of Lyric Writing and Poetry whose students have composed for major artists and written number one songs. At Berklee, he developed the curriculum for the only songwriting major in the country. His books, including Songwriting: Essential Guide to Rhyming and Songwriting: Essential Guide to Lyric Form and Structure, are recognized as definitive in their genre, and have earned many ecstatic reviews. His clinics are attended by songwriters all over the US, and his articles appear regularly in a variety of industry publications.
Pat Pattison explained about the seminar format, “Some of the focus of the MLT Songwriting Seminar will be on “Prosody” – the most important concept in great writing: All the elements of a song should work together to support the song’s central message and emotion. This seminar will show tools and techniques to make your song stronger and more focused, using structure and phrasing to highlight important ideas, and deepen emotional impact – techniques that have helped my students, including John Mayer and Gillian Welch, win Grammys and write number one songs.”
Chanelle Davis; is a diamond in the rough – and after a few years of polishing, the brilliant musical talent is really beginning to shine. She has a gift to say what most of us cannot, writing songs that are conversational and simple, yet mysterious and containing soulful beauty. Chanelle's musical roots can be traced back to her first piano lesson at age four igniting her passion at a tender age. The ember within her smoldered throughout college, where she found herself involved in almost every musical group on offer. Although possessing all of the tools for academic success in almost any field, Chanelle chose the less traditional path, graduating with a Bachelor of commercial music from Waikato Institute Of Technology and a view that if the world needs songs it must need people to write them.
Mike Moroney, Seminar Facilitator said, "In the three years I have been facilitating this seminar it has grown both in the range of people attending and in the scope of Songwriting. As more and more youth are coming along to these workshops, the focus is moving to more interactive and practical exercises in creative Songwriting. Pat and Chanelle will be an exciting development in this trend, addressing the specific issues of how to express emotions in a strong lyric instead of simply bleeding all over the carpet."
The MLT Songwriting Seminar will be held on Thursday 3rd June 9am – 2.30pm at the Heartland Hotel Gore – Admission is $30.00 at the door and includes morning tea.
The MLT Songwriting Awards will be held on Thursday 3rd June 8pm at the Longford Function Centre – Tickets are $50.00 per person which includes premier wines, beer and hors d’oeuvres at the tables. Tables of 10 are available.
