As NZ Music Month 2010 comes to a close in Christchurch, the city counts down to the return of CHARTFEST – the annual multi-stage indoor NZ Music Month festival and music industry expo in the Christchurch Town Hall Complex Friday 28 May 2010, 1pm-11pm
CHARTFEST features music clinics, band competitions, NZ’s only music industry expo, panel discussions in Christchurch's prestigious Town Hall followed by five stages ofincredible live performances from some of the South Island’s most significant artists. Flying Nun legends The Verlaines join future soulsters Electric Wire Hustle Soundsystem, MTV Kickstart winners Clap Clap Riot, indie darlings Die! Die! Die!, RDU98.5FM RoundUp winners Sleepy Age, Dictaphone Blues, The Eastern, Tom Cosm, Soulsystem and many more.
A world record attempt at the largest ukulele orchestra commences at 3.45pm in the James Hay Theatre concludes an afternoon of competitions and music performance and technology clinics. Roger Shepherd, the founder of Flying Nun, joins Graeme Downes from The Verlaines and Bruce Russell from the Dead C for a panel discussion on ‘Music – Present, Past and Future’, along with other experienced music industry reps from around NZ, the UK and the US. The NZ Music Commission, NZ Music Managers Forum, IMNZ, APRA, RIANZ, PPNZ, NZ On Air as well as local radio stations, media, recording studio’s, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra and many others present interactive stands in the Limes from 4.30pm.
For fans of live music, The Press and CHARTFEST are offering you and a friend the chance to win the ultimate prize. Up for grabs are two tickets to the gig of your choice anywhere in the world. To enter, simply buy your ticket to CHARTFEST from Ticketek and then be in the Christchurch Town Hall on Friday, May 28. At some time during the event one lucky reader and music lover chosen at random will get a tap on the shoulder from The Press music editor Vicki Anderson. After answering a simple question about The Press Go section, he or she will be winging their way to the gig of their dreams.
CHARTFEST is proudly presented by CPIT and Christchurchmusic.org.nz in association with the CCC and SmokeFree.
Limited tickets are available for only $10 (student) or $17.50 (adult) from the Town Hall and Isaac Theatre Royal (plus $1 service fee) and at Real Groovy, Tuam St. All purchasers will also receive a CHARTDISC Volume 3 CD while stocks last.
