As introduced to us in July, we enter a world where Bryan Ferry and Steve Malkmus’ Tongan love child became a cheese monger who learned to play the guitar. A world where DD Smash takes more acid, and Ram Dass is in a pub rock band. A world where sonic instrumentals merge with pop in the middle of spaghetti junction.
Gary Dalhousie is that love child. Ocean Beach is the vehicle. The forthcoming album, The Long Road Home, is the tale of one man’s journey from anxious Southland kid to conscious father, partner and mentor.
Come Around is hot on the heels of raucous anthem Boys' Club, which was released in July.
The new Ocean Beach single Come Around was written during a hiatus of a long-term relationship, and outlines the awakening of a man who sleepwalked through a relationship.
"Walking home from a party one night my partner lovingly told me what she needed from me. We ended up splitting up soon afterward but that memory stayed with me.
This song was written during the relationship hiatus. I realised the relationship was very special and I had a lot more to give.
'(I will wait for you to) Come Around speaks to resonating on the same vibe and to continue to increase the frequency (we’ll get high….)'.
Which we have done and are doing. Happy ending."
Come Around was recorded and produced by Dale Cotton (The Bats, [HDU}, The Subliminals, Bachelorette and many more).
