Indie-pop-folk artist Emerson has released her much-anticipated debut single, Bored. The song is now available for streaming and download on all major platforms.
Bored is a gut-wrenching song about a boy who uses a girl to get to her best friend. A standout with her growing fan base, it features a dynamic rhythm that slowly builds to an emotional crescendo in the Bored chorus. The track is produced by Eli Le Fevre and mixed and mastered by Andrew Isdale (Katchafire, Reiki).
"This song helped me get through a lot and I hope it resonates with people," says Emerson.
Emerson (aka Emma Wagner) is a 17-year-old emerging indie-pop-folk artist from Auckland, New Zealand. A multi-instrumentalist, her sound marks a departure from her previous indie-rock projects Fan Club and Parkdale. She is the winner of the 2024 Smokefree Rockquest Auckland Central Solo-Duo final and a National Top 10 finalist. Her music, which features catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, traverses multiple genres including folk and pop, with hints of alternative R&B. Her songs explore themes like self-love, self-hate, unhealthy relationships, and growing up. Her song Carry Me Home From the Car, winner of the Play it Strange 2024 Peace Song Competition, is set for release in October.
In 2023, she received a NZ on Air New Music Development grant under the guidance of producer and mentor Jesse Sheehan. Together, they produced three demos in collaboration with Rodney Fisher (Goodshirt), Tom Chamberlain (PARK RD), and Bella Rafflyn (Coast Arcade).
