Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) and the NZ Music Commission are thrilled to announce more of the line-up for the 2024 edition of the prestigious annual extravaganza, the Going Global Music Summit.
Hot off the back of the NZIFF premiere of the documentary, Alien Weaponry: Kua Tupu Te Ara 2024, band members, Henry De Jong, Lewis De Jong, and Turanga Morgan-Edmonds will be at Going Global sharing their story with attending musicians and industry practitioners about how their incredible rise on the global music scene came about. The band will share stories from when they were teenagers and played the Going Global Showcase back in 2017, blowing the socks off everyone in the venue that night to some of the biggest stages in the world!
Technology strategist and now Author, Glenn McDonald created the music-exploration website Every Noise at Once, and for 12 years was the Data Alchemist at the Echo Nest and Spotify. Glenn has written about music online since before "blog" was a word, and his first offline book, You Have Not Yet Heard Your Favourite Song: How Streaming Changes Music, is out now and he joins us at Going Global to tell us ALL the secrets. Well maybe just some. Leading the conversation will be Founder of NZ’s The Spinoff, Duncan Grieve.

Brendan Gaffney is a leader in the Japanese independent music scene, serving as the Global Marketing Secretariat for Independent Music Coalition Japan (IMCJ), a key trade association representing Japan's independent music sector. Spearheading efforts to amplify the voice and interests of independent musicians within Japan and beyond. Brendan’s expertise is further enriched by his active membership in the World Independent Network (WIN), where he contributes to global initiatives supporting independent music.
Ian Urrutia, The Rest Is Noise / AXEAN Festival (Philippines)
Ian Emmanuel C. Urrutia is the co-founder and artist/media relations director of The Rest Is Noise PH, co-founder of AXEAN Music Showcase Festival and the founder & head publicist of NYOU, a PR and Marketing startup based in Manila.Ian is also a former contributing editor for Philippine Star Supreme, a pop culture, music and arts section and has written for Billboard Philippines, CNN Philippines, Cosmopolitan and Rogue Magazine.
Weining Hung - 9KICK / LUCfest (Taiwan)
Weining Hung is a dynamic force in the music industry, co-founding LUCfest, a prominent three-day showcase festival and conference held in Tainan, Taiwan. At 9KICK, an independent culture agency specialising in experimental music event PR, Weining is the international manager of emerging artists, including Phum Viphurit and ADOY. Her work focuses on bridging Asian musicians with European markets, enhancing their global visibility. Weining splits her time between Asia and Europe and is passionate about stimulating networking activities and building an Asian music industry platform across the globe.
Reggie Ba Pe - Alias - (Australia)
Reggie is the CEO and Founder of Alias, a platform that makes it easy to create content as 3D characters and avatars from any device. With over 15 years at the forefront of youth culture, entertainment, and digital culture, Reggie has been a driving force in the Asia-Pacific creative industries. He previously served as the creative director of 88rising and founded creative production agency Club Media, video-game themed bar Arcade, Shanghai’s largest underground club Arkham, and the renowned Chinese promotions company Sonically Transmitted Disease. His experience ranges from designing music campaigns in China with James Blake for Sprite to touring Aussie artists like The Presets, Regurgitator, and Kirin J Callinan to his club in Shanghai. Passionate about the fringes of music and digital culture, Reggie is now exploring emerging technologies and their transformative impact on the creator economy.

Angela Dorgan (Ireland-First Music Contact) Angela Dorgan is the CEO of www.firstmusiccontact.com (FMC), the Arts Council-funded national resource organisation for the popular music sector in Ireland. Angela was instrumental in the design and lobbying for the Basic Income for Artists trial in Ireland,
As a board member of the European Music Exporters Exchange (EMEE), Angela was part of a group that devised a global music export strategy for European Music for the European Commission.
Elliot Lefko (Canada - Vice President. Goldenvoice/AEG Presents - organisers of Coachella festival) was born in Toronto Canada and from a young age dreamed of being a concert promoter. Things started happening, post college, when he began booking bands around the city doing the first gigs for artists such as The Pixies, Nirvana, Erykah Badu, The Brand New Heavies, The Triffids, and The Chills!!. In 2004 he moved to LA to join Goldenvoice Concerts where he began promoting North American tours for such greats as Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, MGMT, Sigur Ros, Sparks and Kraftwerk. AEG
Lisa Gottheil is the co-founder of Grandstand Media, one of the most respected and in-demand music publicity firms in the world. At Grandstand, she has led international campaigns for artists like Tame Impala, Perfume Genius, and Sam Fender. Lisa began her career as a DJ at Berkeley's KALX radio station, followed by roles in retail, video promotion, and publicity at Rough Trade Records. In 1991, she co-founded AutoTonic Publicity and Management, working with early-career bands like The Afghan Whigs. From 1996 to 2013, she ran 230 Publicity and oversaw the press department at Beggars Banquet, eventually becoming VP of Publicity for Beggars Label Group..
Shain Shaprio PhD (United Kingdom - Author & Speaker | Center for Music Ecosystems | Sound Diplomacy | Momentual | UNESCO Expert) is a globally recognised thought leader at the convergence of music, culture and urban policy. This is showcased in his debut book, This Must Be The Place: How Music Can Make Your City Better. Arguing for the transformative role of artists and musicians in a post-pandemic world, This Must Be The Place not only examines the powerful impact music can have on our cities, but also serves as a how-to guide and toolkit for music-lovers, artists and activists everywhere to begin the process of reinventing the communities they live in.

Patrick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and his insights will undoubtedly captivate and inspire attendees, leaving them with a renewed sense of purpose and direction. His educational foundation includes media business management and sociology. He has contributed to various capacities in indie-label and artist management, as well as festival sponsorships. In addition to his professional commitments, he actively volunteers for initiatives promoting gender equality with an intersectional approach.Since last visit in 2023 Patrick has conversations with multiple NZ artists for his festival.
Dev Sherlock, (Senior Music Programmer for SXSW U.S.) Dev has been a regular at NZ’s Going Global and ushered many kiwi artists through to Austin’s SXSW as a result . Recognised as the world's premier music showcasing event, SXSW brings together the global music community, alongside the film and tech industries, for a week of networking and live showcases in Austin, Texas, featuring more than 1,000 artists from 60+ countries. Dev’s background also includes music journalism, film supervision, radio and broadcasting.
Twenty-four artists have been selected to perform at the Going Global Showcase in front of the public and all of the attending international talent spotters and speakers. These artists represent the forefront of New Zealand’s diverse and vibrant music scene that are ready to take their craft to the world.The evening will be hosted by the newly refurbished Double Whammy! venue and the legendary original Whammy! bar in the vibrant heart of Karangahape Rd, Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland.
