Fly My Pretties Announce New Show Elemental

14 August 2024 - 0 Comments

Loop is excited to announce the return of Fly My Pretties with a new show and musical experience for the first time in eight years. Entitled Elemental, this new show will be led by frontman Barnaby Weir & frequent collaborator Laughton Kora, alongside a to-be-announced cast of familiar and undiscovered musicians.

Debuting as part of the Wellington Jazz Festival, each show will be performed, recorded live, exclusively at The Great Hall in Wellington, and created in partnership with Massey University. The recordings will make up Fly My Pretties’ seventh live project, and the first since 2016’s String Theory.

Tickets for Elemental are on sale at 12pm on Friday August 16 from Loop

This new show will see this group of musicians exploring a range of fundamental human, spiritual and natural elements through waiata. 20 years since the debut of Fly My Pretties with the iconic Live At Bats they will return to their spiritual home of Wellington for an all-new musical exploration not to be missed.

“I am truly excited to embark on a new musical adventure of authentic collaboration. We’re heading back to the roots of the original concept in the birthplace of Fly My Pretties - exploring new and arresting stories through songwriting and performing them live with a talented collection of incredible voices. We can’t wait to dive into another experimental colab and musical mystic brew, and we hope you will join us in person and be a part of it all.” - Barnaby Weir

With a history of unearthing some of NZ’s finest musical talent, Elemental will again see fresh faces combined with Fly My Pretties favourites, led by Barnaby Weir & the inimitable Laughton Kora. For the first time since 2016, Wellington will get the chance to witness these new songs being crafted and honed on stage during these debut performances.

The band will spend the week before the shows rehearsing in the world-class recording facilities of Massey University, before moving down the road to The Great Hall for these performances. Each show will then be recorded live and instantly sent back to the Massey recording studio to be mixed into Fly My Pretties’ seventh album. This project will see Fly My Pretties not only embracing the facilities on offer at Massey’s College of Creative Arts but also giving current students a glimpse into the inner workings of one of NZ music’s most unique projects.

Each show will see not only this new collection of songs being performed for the first time, but also a second set of Fly My Pretties classics being reimagined by this new cast of musicians. Saturday will also see a matinee performance, alongside evening performances on Friday and Saturday. The show will take place exclusively at the stunning setting of Wellington’s Great Hall, inside of the former Dominion Museum overlooking Wellington city.

Presented by Loop, brought to you by Cassels Brewing Co, Main Divide, Radioactive.FM & Massey University.
