Lauren Thomson took home $2500 last week for winning the New Zealand Trust Songwriting Awards in Gore, for her song 'Where Would I Be'. She had two songs chosen in the top ten where she performed alongside the other nominees and songwriter guru from Berkley College, Pat Pattison whom has been a mentor to Thomson.
Runner up for the NZ Trust Songwriting Award was Tami Neilson, who for a second year in a row also, took home the Tui for Best Country Album, for 'The Kitchen Table Sessions'. Thomson and Neilson are collaborating on the second volume of 'The Kitchen Table Sessions', which will be recorded in Canada next month and released in October 2010.
It was a busy week in Gore for Thomson where she has performed as a special guest at the Hands of Fame Induction for Marian Burns and also the RIANZ Country Album Awards alongside nominated artists, Dianne Swann (The Bads), Top Twins, Tami Neilson and APRA Best Country Song Award winner, Matt Langley.
Thomson, originally from Hamilton, now in Auckland, was nominated for an APRA Silver Scroll Award in 2008, for her song 'Our Love Is Due'. While it was an honor to have one of the best 20 songs in the country, alongside artists Dave Dobbyn and OpShop, she says, "It's so nice to come out on top for once!"
She has toured NZ the last couple of years, as well as, Australia and was recently part of the successful Saint’s & Sinners Tour with Tami Neilson and Jackie Bristow, where they performed on TV1's Good Morning Show.
