Kiwi band Daily J bring carefree vibes on new single and video 'Sunday Stitches'

05 September 2024 - 0 Comments

Hot on the heels of their sold-out UK tour and a slot on London’s famed All Points East Festival, NZ indie sensations Daily J have today released the second single from their highly anticipated third album, the hook-laden Sunday Stitches.

Listen to Sunday Stitches HERE

Capturing the relatable melancholic aftermath of repetitive Saturday nights, the emotive lyrics delve into themes the band describe as “hanxiety” and the “Sunday Scaries.”

“I wrote Sunday Stitches about the emotional tug-of-war between succumbing to temporary relief and living a healthier lifestyle,” explains Jayden. “It underscores themes of self-awareness, introspection, and the courage to confront personal demons.”

Collaborating once again with producer Joe Faris, who also worked on their 2020 album Venus Ate Mars, featuring the fan favorite Left Me Like SummerDaily J infuses Sunday Stitches with fast-paced rhythms and hopeful, high-energy instrumentals, marking a new era and sound for the band of brothers.

Capturing the carefree essence of the music with a poignant delivery of the lyrics is the video, also out today. Filmed in the rural location of Ohakune by Dylan Martin, the visuals depict both the “happy and melancholic sides of the song, whilst making it feel organic and fun.” As the band explains: “we shot it speed up so that when slowed down to the track tempo, it feels sludgy and blurred like a night out.”

This is the second single to come from their forthcoming album, previously releasing Happy Slides - along with the video - which marked the first new music from Daily J since last year’s double EP release Slush Honey Side A and Side B. Happy Slides was met with acclaim; shared on platforms including Sniffers, Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Radio Hauraki, and more.

It’s been an action packed few years for the local lads (three brothers Jayden, Jonny and Jesse Paul and good mate Rick Everard), who have earned a reputation as one of New Zealand music’s most successful exports with tens of millions of streams across platforms and sold out tours across countries. This includes their smash hit Left Me Like Summer, which was recently certified Gold in New Zealand.

Today’s release comes as Daily J wrap up a hugely successful UK tour, with sold out shows in London, Manchester and Bristol. The band also dazzled crowds at the All Points East Festival in London, where they shared the line up with acts such as The Decemberists, Sleater-Kinney and Phoenix.

There’s more to come from this band of brothers and a bud; they have a huge year planned. Stay tuned!
