Alt-rocker-indie-witch, Mikaela Cougar, releases brand new gritty, grungy, raw track, The Brain Song, today, November the 8th.
A cross between Kurt Cobain and Sheryl Crow, Produced by Buzz Moller from NZ band {Voom.
Mikaela trained classically in opera singing during high school. After high school she attended music school, MAINZ, where she fell obsessed with songwriting and used the resources to make her first EP Lucky Stars and formed a band.
On stage Mikaela is a force to be reckoned with, playing an electric show full of energy, casting spells with her vocals, the front row reserved for intensity seekers, Mikaela WILL bite your head off.
Earlier this year Mikaela released her second EP Streets of My Mind where she self-produced some of the tracks. The first single Outwit You landed #1 on BFM and #20 on the official NZ hot single charts. Also featuring popular tracks Black Cats and Can You Tell.
Mikaela describes herself as.. ‘the girl all those 90's rock boy bands were singing about and these are my response songs’. A child of the bohemian revolution, inspired by strong women like Alanis Morrissette, P!NK, Stevie Nicks, Avril Lavigne, Kate bush, Cyndi Lauper and No Doubt.
Now, hailing in from the Waitakere ranges, Mikaela Cougar is back with a brand new release, The Brain Song out November 8th.
"This track was the first time id written about my mental health struggles in such a direct, blunt, candid way. I can’t write when I'm numb and depressed, I think it all sounds like shit, but when I wrote this song I was just like… Ok I'm not gonna try write something that sounds beautiful, or deep, or cool, or good, I’m gonna write exactly how I feel in this state. I didn’t think I’d end up working on it and releasing it but here we are!!" - Mikaela Cougar
