Otautahi’s rising pop-rock band Castaway is back with their latest single, Move On, marking their fifth single release this year. Following the success of their opening slot for Drax Project, their chart-climbing singles Daisy, which reached #6 on the NZ Hot 20 Charts and It’s Not Your Fault which both received airplay across More FM, ZM, The Hits, and RNZ, the band continues to solidify their presence in the New Zealand music scene.
With the recent support from NZ On Air It’s Not Your Fault, Move On is set to make an impact as Castaway prepare for their upcoming sophomore EP Nondual, slated for release in November followed by their debut nationwide tour.
Move On delves deep into the emotional complexities of long-distance relationships, capturing the highs and lows of being apart from a loved one. Drawing inspiration from the sound of Coldplay, Kings of Leon, and Niall Horan, Castaway blends raw intimacy with powerful emotional peaks in this anthemic release.
“There are bound to be emotional highs and lows and feelings of loneliness and confusion when you are apart from that special person,” says lead singer Jackson Stewart. “We hope Move On helps listeners connect with these feelings and find comfort in knowing they’re not alone.”
Produced by the renowned Greg Haver, alongside Clint Murphy and Ryan Smith, Move On showcases Castaway’s signature pop-rock sound, while infusing '80s-inspired drums and atmospheric percussion. Haver’s production brings a cinematic touch to the track, amplifying the raw, heartfelt emotion of Stewart’s reflective lyrics.
One of the song’s standout moments is a heartfelt saxophone solo performed by Jack, capturing the raw intensity of long-distance longing. “It’s the emotional peak of the song,” Jackson recalls. “The saxophone adds a depth of emotion that words alone couldn’t convey.”
Following their performance at the James Hay Theatre opening for Drax Project, Castaway is eager to connect with their listeners on an even deeper level with Move On. The band will embark on their first nationwide tour at the end of 2024, giving fans across Aotearoa the opportunity to experience their dynamic live performances.
With a summer full of live performances, including slots at Otautahi’s New Years in the Park and Selwyn Sounds in 2025, Castaway is excited to perform to larger audiences and share their infectious pop-rock energy with heartfelt emotion.
