The video is directed by Sam Southwell / Studio South, who is also responsible
for the artwork for Nathan’s new album Notes. Inspired by a Venetian graphic style, providing a timeless look across the visuals for both the album & the video was key. The video brings together design elements with a modern,
soft and utilitarian graphic edge, studio moments of the band performing the track, and scenes of the home-studio space where Haines completed work on the album.
One of the more energetic highlights of the new album Notes, Give Thanks came
to life after longtime-collaborator Mark de Clive-Lowe added his trademark keys to the house-beats and production from Haines and Frank Booker.
The high energy vocals of Oakes and Clarke all perfectly compliment each other creating a track which has been called “a brilliant festive banger”.
The video's release comes ahead of Haines’ hometown album release show at the iconic Powerstation
in November, which will see Haines taking to the stage with a massive 11-piece band, featuring musicians who have collaborated many times with Haines over the years, plus fresh faces who feature on the new album Notes The band also features
younger brother Joel, who was raised on music by their accomplished musician father Kevin. The band includes:
Vocalists Eo, La Coco, Lisa Tomlins, Rachel Clarke & Tama Waipara, Joel Haines (guitar), Joe Kaptein & Alan Brown (keys/synths),
Ben Turua (bass), Elijah Whyte (drums) and Ritchie Cesan (percussion), with more special guests to be added.
Support for this show will also come from Wellington-based DJ, producer, and promoter Benny Salvador, who is fast becoming
one of NZ’s go-to floor fillers.
Tickets are selling fast for this one-off performance which will see Haines and his band bring to life tracks from the new album and his acclaimed catalogue.
Notes is
Haines’ eleventh studio album and his first solo album since 2014. It comes after a time period that has seen a transformative change in Haines’ personal & professional life, including moving back to NZ, becoming a father,
and setting up his own recording studio. Throughout this time, he was also diagnosed and has recovered from throat cancer, a hugely difficult time for a person who has made his career using his throat. Given the personal circumstances surrounding
the album, Notes truly feels like a celebration of life and features a collection of tracks that are as rhythmically infectious as they are emotionally profound.
After selling out the iconic Jazz Cafe in
London, don’t miss the triumphant return of Nathan Haines to Auckland’s Powerstation this November. New album Notes are available now and in limited edition double LP vinyl & CD stores.
