Oakley Grenell returns with a writing and vocal collaboration that has spanned over 22 years, featured on the new single How You Like That from his upcoming album, Charted LP, set for release on November 22, 2024. Christchurch-based jazz vocalist Jennine Bailey, who appeared on both Grenell’s debut Jaded EP (2002) and the follow-up Uncharted LP (2004), has rekindled their musical partnership with the sultry, trip-hop-infused track How You Like That.
The duo performed weekly as a vocal and jazz guitar team for many years, honing their performance and improvisational skills over countless walking (guitar) bass lines, which is evident in the way Grenell melds the elements around Bailey’s lush vocals. Large, flowing sub-bass lines are accented by dreamy guitar delays and playful lyrics from Bailey, reminiscent of the Bristol sound of the 90's.
This collaboration paves the way for some double-time liquid drum and bass remixes—keep your eyes peeled in early 2025 for these!
Oakley can be seen and heard weekly during his hour of Visual Radio, streaming live on Twitch with collaborator Max Shotta as part of Friday Night LETOFF from 5-6 pm PST.
