Who Shot Scott is the musical project of Zaidoon Nasir (he/him), a producer and experimental hip hop artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland).
In a short four year run, Who Shot Scott has completed his Mercy EP trilogy, supported the likes of Snoop Dogg and Yung Gravy and toured throughout Aotearoa, Australia and Singapore.
Today Who Shot Scott shares The Data from
his upcoming EP Brain (Side B). The track’s unapologetic attitude and raw, rebellious energy is on full display in the accompanying music video directed by long term collaborator Connor Pritchard (and made with support from NZ on Air Music).
Back to blow the lid off the system, Auckland-based alternative artist/producer Who Shot Scott returns with his furious new single and anti-conformist anthem, The Data. Serving as the second track off his upcoming EP Brain (Side B), this isn’t just a song, it’s a full-on sonic riot drenched in distorted guitars, scream-your-lungs-out vocals, and earth shattering drums that take the term ‘banger’ very literally. Who Shot Scott pulls no punches, diving headfirst into the war between commerce and art. In his own words:
“I had one of the most soul-sucking experiences of my life earlier this year at a music seminar hosted by perhaps the biggest social media company in the world. The whole event kept pushing a false narrative that they were there to help artists, when in reality, there was a clear self-serving agenda to keep us in the grips of their business-first, art-second mentality. When I got back home I couldn’t stop thinking about just how ruthless and nonchalant the whole thing was. It made me sick to think that there are so many artists that compromise their vision in an attempt to please social media companies or people attached to them from a business sense in order to try and be sustainable. This song is my ‘fuck you’ to the conformity.”
With its unapologetic attitude and raw, rebellious energy, The Data is the sonic
defibrillator for anyone suffocating in the mind-numbing drudgery of social media and everyday life. The frenzied music video, directed by award-winning filmmaker Connor Pritchard
, features Who Shot Scott smashing up a room—ripping down posters, destroying speakers, and going ballistic with a baseball bat—capturing the raw frustration and fury he feels towards the music industry machine. A fair warning: this track isn’t for the soft-hearted or your afternoon tea with grandma. But if you’re down to set fire to the system, welcome to the revolution.
