The new single from Makeshift Parachutes, Kool-Aid, delivers a catchy riff which drives the tune from the first note into an instant earworm. Throughout the track vocal melodies cascade out from the main riff, building up to a head banging halftime feel, from which the listener is propelled back into its vibrant groove. Lyrically the song is about escapism for which the Kool-Aid is the key. Sippin’ it till we’re falling out of our windows in the daytime.
Makeshift Parachutes recorded Kool-Aid in May 2024 at the Lab studios in Auckland. It was engineered by Jol Mulholland who also co-produced the track with the band. They debuted the new track live on their most recent tour and found it demanding the attention of the dance floor. The track is set to be released on October 30th 2024 through DRM, and is the first single off a forthcoming EP to be released in June 2025.
Formed in 2012, Makeshift Parachutes relocated from Austin, Texas to Aotearoa in 2015 where they have honed their sound and built their audience. Their back catalogue boasts a slew of singles and their debut album, The Daily Absurd, released in 2019. Alongside original members Chris McCollum (guitar, vocals) Daniel O'Connor (bass, vocals) and Sharif O'Connor (guitar, synth, vocals) the band introduces its most recent addition, drummer Thomas Friggens (Sea Mouse, Sheeps).
After a successful 8 date tour across Aotearoa in August 2024, Makeshift Parachutes are next performing at Aum’s New Years Festival which is held north-west of Auckland in South Head.
Make sure to give Kool-Aid a spin and experience Makeshift Parachute's mind-blowing, cosmic riffage, and hypnotically heavy grooves!
