Rose’s latest EP, First Light, captures the profound journey of personal rebirth and transformation. This collection of songs reflects the pivotal moment when one senses a shift, emerging from the shadows of the past to embrace a brighter, more hopeful future. It symbolises the transition from darkness to dawn, where light becomes transformative, sharing a new beginning and the opportunity to reshape the path. Written during a period of intense personal change following a breakup at the end of 2022 and throughout 2023—alongside an overseas trip exploring family history—the tracks were later brought to life with the collaboration of various producers across New Zealand.
The title First Light pays homage to Rose's Spanish heritage; "Alba" in Spanish translates to "dawn" or "first light of the morning”, a name gifted to her by her grandmother. This sophomore EP showcases Rose’s unique blend of indie-soul and indie pop, drawing inspiration from artists such as Lianne La Havas, Cleo Sol, Lucy Rose, and James Blake.
In October 2024, Rose made a significant move by relocating to Berlin, marking First Light as her first international release.
Rose’s recent single, The Long Road, garnered attention across international press outlets such as Earmilk, Last Day Deaf, Music Sons, and Purple Melon. Additionally, her first release of 2024 secured a spot on the NZ Hot Singles Chart and the NZ Top Charts, with airplay on both national and international radio stations (ZM, The George, The Hits, SNR Radio). In August, Rose completing her debut music video with the support of NZ On Air, which you can watch here.
