Powder Chutes release 'Scalpel' as chosen by Alien Weaponry

29 November 2024 - 0 Comments

If previous track Straights was the anthem to a night of hedonism, Scalpel finds our un-named protagonist at the sharp end of a night out. Scalpel staggers through the murky aspect of partying, loosely dealing with missed opportunities, disappointments, questionable choices, and self-doubt, backed by an astonishingly mature slab of Powder Chutes’ signature groove.

Though Scalpel shares thematically common ground with previous track Straights, there’s no soap box preaching, finger wagging, or heavy handed zealotry present; this is observational lyricism at its best, with powerful riffs, a thunderous rhythm section and a vocal hook that allows the story breath.

Scalpel was chosen by international metal band Alien Weaponry as the winning entry for the inaugural AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand (AJHBNZ) Thrash More competition in Nov 2023;

“We felt that Powder Chutes encapsulated "Live More Fear Less" to a T. We were blown away by their wicked technical ability and song writing as well as their energy and passion and we are excited to see what the boys in Powder Chutes have in store for us in the future! Kia mau te wehi kia koutou e Powder Chutes, ka titiro mātou ki tō koutou mahi ki mua!” – Alien Weaponry

Scalpel is accompanied by a powerful character video helmed by celebrated cinematographer Joe Murdie.

In Breaking News Powder Chutes are set to support Highly Suspect in Wellington tonight following a last minute line-up change.
