Rising star Max Allais clocks up more than 1M streams in less than two weeks on new single

NZ pop artist Max Allais is starting 2025 on a high, with his recently released single When The Party Ends reaching more than a million listeners in less than two weeks.

The rising star released the catchy ‘coming of age’ tune in late December and it’s already clocked up 1.28 million streams on Spotify alone. It comes on the back of 12 hugely successful nationwide Springboard Tour shows late last year, which took Max through from Whangarei to Wellington, Nelson to Invercargill and everywhere in between.

When The Party Ends exudes a dreamy youthfulness and effortlessly treads the line between upbeat and chill. It’s a fresh new sound for the emerging artist - who has a TikTok following of more than 3 Million - resonating with Kiwi fans and international fans alike.

“The song is about wanting to get lost with someone special. It’s that mix of emotions you feel when you’re at a party, wanting the night to keep going, but also wanting to leave and be alone with them,” says Max.

Written and recorded on a writing camp in the US, Max recalls working with Nashville-based songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Evan Cline, who has worked with the likes of Teddy Swims, gavn! and Tanner Adell.

“I wanted to write something a little different from the previous sessions during the week. I wanted it to sound upbeat and fun. Evan came up with a very cool sounding guitar as soon as I walked into the studio. We all started moving around in the studio bumping off each other and coming up with melodies. The first lyric “can we slow dance will the party ends” came out very quickly and we knew instantly that it had to be the first line of the chorus. That's where the title of the song “when the party ends” came from. The session just felt very fun and free.”

Helping to capture the energy of the song, is a video shot at the Civic Theatre in Invercargill by renowned NZ videographer Taine Noble. Watch here.

“The Civic Theatre in Invercargill provided this beautiful, timeless backdrop. The idea is that as the night progresses, the party scene transitions into more personal moments, mirroring the emotions in the song. The video is in black and white, which adds a sense of timelessness and allows the focus to stay on the raw emotions and the energy of the night as if you were at a party.”

When The Party Ends is the latest in a string of winning singles from Max Allais. Check out Yesterday and Lost In Love, which were both released towards the end of 2024.

Already with a huge online following including over 3 million followers on TikTok alone (and was TikTok’s most viewed NZ artist of 2024), Max Allais is proving why he’s been touted as an artist to watch!
