A capacity crowd at The Kings Arms on Saturday night set the scene for a monumental night of new NZ music; with 14 bands from around the country pouring their hearts and souls into their 15 minute sets; battling to be this year’s National Champions.
POPPY DUST from Wellington took out first place with an energetic, unique set of up tempo, very catchy pop songs that had the audience enthusiastically dancing and singing along for their entire performance.
TRIBALSTATE from Auckland were a close second place performing a tight, melodic set of well crafted rock songs, with superb vocal harmonies, musicianship and song arrangements.
NAILED SHUT, also from Auckland were the third place winners; playing a full on set of in your face metal. With the biggest crowd support of any band in this year’s event, Nailed Shut pleased their hardcore fan-base with an impressive live show also winning the TXT voting by a significant margin.
Poppy Dust have won a single recording at York Street Studios, an Allen & Heath mixing desk and a national tour which they will embark on in 2011.

The country’s best Live Music Venues hosted Battle of the Bands events. Juice Bar, Kings Arms and Stampede in Auckland, Bodega in Wellington, Al’s Bar in Christchurch, Brewers Bar in Mount Maunganui & The Outback Inn in Hamilton.
Voting
With Vodafone and Run the Red, fans were able to TXT vote (Free with Vodafone, 20c with Other Networks) for their favourite National Final band. Results were a mixture of professional Judges and public TXT votes; so everyone Nationwide had a chance to have their say.
