The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre invites health and education professionals, friends and family to attend its 2010 Open Day. Find out about music therapy and hear first-hand from parents and teachers about their experiences with music therapy.
The Open Day includes case study presentations and footage of music therapy sessions, anecdotes from RMTC therapists, teachers and parents, followed by live music, food and refreshments.
When: Wednesday October 20, 2010
Time: 2pm – 7pm
2pm onwards - Afternoon tea
2.30pm - Music therapist presentation
3.30pm - Parent talk – Alison Whittington to talk about her son Thomas, who has Down Syndrome and autistic behaviours, and the positive effect music therapy has had on her family
4.30pm - Teacher talk – Georgina Willy from Carlson School for children with Cerebral Palsy
5pm - Live music, drinks and nibbles
About the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre
The Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre (RMTC) in Auckland opened on 18 March 2004 and is New Zealand’s only music therapy centre. The centre provides music therapy for special needs children of school age and younger.
Music therapy is about building bridges of communication through music and actively engaging individuals in potential growth, development and change through the power of music. For many people, music helps reduce a sense of isolation and creates new possibilities for participation in the world and a more creative life.
