Four grants were awarded, these include one Business Development grant, two Stage Two grants and one Stage Three grant. Also awarded was one out of round Instant Action grant.
Southbound – Business Development Grant.
A Business Development Grant was awarded to Southbound Music to attend the international music trade fair MIDEM. Southbound represents a large array of labels and intend to promote and market them at MIDEM. The newly created Business Development Grant provides specific assistance to attend tradeshows (Midem, SXSW, CMJ, Big Sound etc) to improve and broaden international commercial links. The grant provides basic costs (Airfares, Accommodation, Per Diems) for one or two people traveling to a specific event.
David Dallas – Stage 2.
After a couple of years playing Outward Sound supported shows in the USA, including showcasing at SXSW 09/10 and CMJ 09, building his profile and fanbase, a Stage Two grant was awarded to David Dallas. David recently signed to famous hip hop label Duck Down records in New York, home to KRS-One, B-Real, Heltah Skeltah, Buckshot et al. The deal will see David relocate to New York to support the release of his music, as well as the touring and promotional opportunities created by the label throughout 2011.
Phoenix Foundation – Stage 2.
The Phoenix Foundation receives a Stage Two Grant for in market tours to Europe & the UK to support the release of their album Buffalo through label Memphis Industries. The touring will take place January through July 2011 and will see them playing series of festivals and club dates throughout the UK and Europe. Phoenix Foundation recently received glowing reviews in Q magazine, Mojo, Uncut and the Independent Newspaper, who said “Surely the most potent band to come out of New Zealand since the far off days of the Chills… Gorgeous.”

Liam Finn – Stage 3.
Liam Finn was awarded a Stage Three grant to assist and market the May 2011 release of his second album through Yep Roc in the USA and Transgressive Records in Europe and Asian regions and Liberation in Australia. Liam will be performing at SXSW in March and then undertake a promotional tour of the US and UK in April and May 2011. Liam will relocate to New York City for 2011 to be present in market to capitalise on promotional opportunities from his labels and business partners. By being based in New York Liam and his management can actively service the key markets for Liam’s album release.
Kids Of 88 – Instant Action.
Kids of 88, after signing with Sony Music Entertainment Australia, touring that country as well as playing a successful series of showcases at the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, have been invited to be the support act for the Ke$ha tour of UK and Europe. Ke$ha is one of the biggest artists of 2010 with her debut album Animal selling over ten million copies worldwide this year. Kids Of 88 were granted an out of round Instant Action grant to help fund this exciting opportunity.
Applications for the next round of Outward Sound grants close on December 13th 2010 at 5pm.
