With an exciting new venue just completed in Central Otago, there could be no better person for its opening party than Warren Maxwell, as he performed his first ever solo acoustic set.
On Sunday 23rd January, over 200 people attended the inaugural party at The Rippon Hall in Wanaka, which stands proudly on the vineyard land where the biennial Rippon Festival is held.
Described by Warren Maxwell (TrinityRoots,
Little Bushman) as “the best new venue in Aotearoa by far”, Rippon Hall accommodates 120 people, with an adjacent covered area fitting a further 200 people.
Nick Mills of Rippon Vineyard said, “As a family, we were simply overwhelmed by seeing the Hall filled with so much happiness, music and mirth on its opening night. We felt the emotive spirit of Warren and all the people present being driven into every pore of the building. “
Featuring curved beams made of larch milled from the property, the rammed earth walls of Rippon Hall also house the ashes of the late Rolfe Mills, who was a prime pioneer of the Central Otago viticultural scene.
Spokesperson for the event, Lynne Christie cited the party as “a historical night for Wanaka” with Warren’s stunning solo set following the original music from the Sounz Forza students, whom he had tutored that weekend.
