Excitement is mounting as Wellington gears up for the start of PAO PAO PAO tonight, an event that will showcase a fantastic array of Mâori musical talent over two whânau-friendly concerts.
Presented by Toi Mâori Aotearoa*, this will the ninth time that this annual event has been run and this year promises to be a fantastic celebration of Mâori music at its best with a particularly strong line up of guest artists set to perform. This year ticket sales will go towards the Christchurch Earthquake Relief Fund.
Demand for tickets to this year’s event has been high but there are still opportunities for whânau to get tickets,” says event manager Ngahiwi Apanui. ‘PAO PAO PAO is an opportunity for young and old to come and hear some of the best Mâori musical talent perform a broad range of musical styles including reggae, funk, hip-hop, jazz fusion, neo-soul and taonga puoro.’
The two concerts will also showcase a strong line up with headliner Maisey Rika and local Wellington artists including Tyna Keelan & The Nok, Ria Hall, Bella Kalolo, David Grace & Injustice, Matiu Te Huki, Wai, Toni Huata, Bebe Deluxe and Porirua reggae band Vintage.
PAO PAO PAO 2011 will be heldat Pipitea Marae in Wellington tonight, Friday 20 May 2011 and tomorrow night Saturday 21 May 2011 – two amazing concerts over two unforgettable nights.
