The entrants have been scrutinised and the finalists selected in the Metro Garage Band series at Sale St.
Nine semi-finalists are competing over three Sunday evenings at the Auckland bar in front of three eagle-eared judges and a critical audience comprising Sale St patrons.
The first semi-final last Sunday night (May 29) saw Waiheke Island band The Dust blow away fellow musicians Audio Pilots and Nitrous.
Coming up are Quazimofo, See Me Now and Big O! on June 5. The third heat on June 12 Midget, whose members are aged between nine and 11, and Muthrung and Sleepin’ Brains.
Judges choose a winning band at every heat but across the Metro Garage Band Series at Sale St public can text the band short code to 8228 and vote for a favourite band and get them through the to the final (20c per txt).
The band with the most txt’s wins the WILD CARD VOTE and goes straight to the finals on June 19 to compete along with the other semi-finalists for a recording session at the Red Bull Studio Auckland.
There is a $5 cover charge each night for the public and all proceeds go to the Raukatauri Music Therapy Centre which provides music therapy services for disabled children.
