The first round of Launchpad is now down to a shortlist of three finalists. A panel of judges met last week to listen to all of the entries and pick the best three.
Launchpad is a joint initiative between Space and Coke designed to help launch a New Zealand band. The winning artist or band will receive a video made for them, a guest live appearance on Space, help with publicity and promotion and a feature article in Rip It Up magazine.
The winner will be picked by public vote on the Space website http://www.spacenz.com
The three finalists are as follows.
Foamy Ed - "Overload"
Auckland all girl pop-punkers are veterans of the live scene having got together in 1996. They've supported Blink 182, Pennywise and 28 Days. They have released two independent EP's but are yet to launch themselves with a video.
Shakhan - "The Summoning"
Shakhan have been part of the Wellington metal scene for 6 years - they have supported 8 Foot Sativa, Brubeck, Sticky Filth, Monsterworks and tons more. They describe their music as "a dynamic new angle in the metal sound, their sound is a mixture of brutal grooves, charging guitar riffs, deep driving bass lines and harsh roughneck vocals".
The Others - "Stay Awake"
The Others are all aged 17 and are made up of Skeptic, Medic and DJ Sinergen. They hail from central Auckland and have been together for two years performing at parties and talent quests. They say 'We have insight to uplift the strength of the New Zealand Hip Hop scene".
To cast your vote go to http://www.spacenz.com/ - you can listen to the tracks and pick who you think should be the winner. Voting closes on Thursday 20th March with the winner announced live on Space on Friday 21st March.
