Fans of top selling band Six60 can get a piece of New Zealand music history as doors from the famous address 660 Castle St, Dunedin, signed by band members, are auctioned off to raise money for the Dunedin Hospital Oncology Unit.
Three members of the band lived at 660 Castle St in 2005 while studying at Otago University. The name of the band came from the address.
PlaceMakers Dunedin customer, Streamline Construction, are currently doing repairs on the flat at 660 Castle St. The doors were to be chopped up for firewood but PlaceMakers Dunedin owner/operator and Six60 fan Justin Macready saw them and thought it would be a great idea to sell them for charity.
Says Macready, “The builder said to me “you’ll never guess where these came from” and being a Six60 fan I realized that they were an important part of New Zealand music history. We contacted the band and they were thrilled to help out. Two band members and flatmates Chris Mac and Eli Paewai came down and signed them and they are now on Trade Me”
Three of the originals have been donated to PlaceMakers to sell in an effort to raise funds for a therapy chair for the Oncology and Haematology department at Dunedin Hospital.
