With a company slogan “Miles ahead in Reggae Music” VP Records has been the leading independent Reggae label since the early ‘90s. It is with great pleasure Frequency Media Group announce they will be representing the catalogue for New Zealand and Australia. The label has achieved worldwide success with the popularity of the Riddim sound in the new millennium with stars Sean Paul, Shaggy, Elephant Man & Beenie Man.
Reggae music, particularly Pacific-based Reggae from New Zealand and Hawaii, has gained large momentum in the last five years with local acts becoming household favorites alongside VP Records artists such as Gyptian, Mavado, Morgan Heritage and Etana. The long-term goal of the VP/FMG partnership is to expose Pacific-based Reggae music back into the larger worldwide Reggae market.
“New Zealand and the Pacific has become one of the key Reggae markets in the world,” says Dawn Raid/FMG’s Brotha D. “This new partnership allows us to bring the hottest Reggae artists in the world to our shores and in turn we can push Pacific Reggae back into other territories - it’s a win-win situation.”
The first release under the new deal is the annual Reggae Gold 2102 – a collection of the hottest Reggae tracks in the market including NZ radio favourite ‘She Doesn’t Mind’ by Sean Paul. The new two disc set features exclusive new music from Etana, Beres Hammond & Busy Signal feat. Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and will be available in New Zealand & Australia 13 July.
Originally founded by the late Vincent “Randy” Chin & his wife Patricia Chin in Jamaica 1979, the name of VP Records is a product of the first letters in the founders’ names. Both founders have a rich history in Jamaica dating back to Randy’s Records and Studio 17, before moving to New York to open VP Records in 1975.
Reggae Gold 2012 Double CD, featuring hits ‘She Doesn’t Mind’ by Sean Paul and ‘Kingston Town Remix’ by Busy Signal feat. Damian ‘Jr.Gong’ Marley available everywhere 13 July.
