The Concert

A concerted effort, with thanks to Skinny Mobile

Saturday 3rd November 2012

Ami Stadium, Christchurch (R15)

The Concert with thanks to Skinny Mobile just got even bigger!

Seven more amazing acts have now been confirmed to play at the free concert held exclusively for people who volunteer 4+ hours in Canterbury. The Concert, brought to you by the Volunteer Army Foundation, will be held at the new Ami Stadium on Saturday November 3rd and is shaping up to be the biggest concert held in the city since the devastating Feb 22nd earthquake almost 21 months ago. Tickets are strictly limited for volunteers and those who don’t want to miss out are urged to register on http://www.theconcert.co.nz/ now!

Some of New Zealand’s best-loved bands are coming together to entertain the 10,000 expected volunteers, including no less than the legendary ambassadors of the Aotearoa dub roots reggae sound, Katchafire. Much loved by all New Zealanders they have produced many Kiwi summer anthems such as ‘Get Away’ and ‘Giddy Up’. They will play a special mid-afternoon sunshine set for the Ami Stadium crowd.

Also bringing true mana to The Concert are Che Fu & The Kratez. The founding member of Supergroove has since had an illustrious solo career spanning 15 years and more top 10 singles than any other in the NZ charts. In 2009 Che was presented The NZ Order Of Merit for his contribution to music and he will  bring his full catalogue of hits especially to honour Canterbury’s volunteers.

More of our music legends are coming out of the woodwork for The Concert including The Crusader himself. Scribe will close out the festival program in true party style, with a collection of Dawn Raid’s finest including Savage, PNC, Pieter T anchored by the original DJ Sir-Vere.

The Edge’s boy band Titanium will make a special appearance. Since winning the nationwide competition this group of 6 young men have had singles reach No.1 on the official RAINZ chart and on iTunes, as well as host auditions across the country.

Finally, the Volunteer Army is proud to welcome The Christchurch Pops Choir to The Concert stage. This collection of 70 men and women have become an institution of inspiration for the people of The Garden City raising hearts and spirits where and whenever they perform.

These amazing acts complete a star-studded line-up already featuring: Avalanche City, GoodshirtAutozamm, Massad, Annah MacK.One, Tyson Tyler, DJ CXL, Hollie Smith, Dukes, Illegal Banditz featuring Brooke, Kidz In Space, Late Nyte Hype, Dane Rumble, J Williams, The Eastern, House of Mountain & Hera.

A total of 24 acts will take to the stage on Saturday November 3rd. The stadium will feature an interactive village, food stalls, an R18 area, and the show will be hosted by the presenters of The Edge radio and will be filmed for TV and broadcast live across MonstaVision screens in the arena. The full day of music and entertainment starts at 2pm and finishes at 10.30pm.
