The 2013 event will run earlier in the year than usual, with heats starting the first week of April.
We have an early bird discount on the entry fee for any bands entering soon, (Available from now until 30th November)
Introduction
Battle of the Bands National Championship is New Zealand's largest and longest running R18 Band competition; events take place nationwide, allowing bands throughout the country to take part.
The 2013 event will be the 19th year of the NZ Battle of the Bands.
3 months of eliminations will be held at multiple live music venues throughout New Zealand. Each venue hosts a series of heats, semi-finals and regional finals. Throughout the event, judging and voting determines each region's champion; who then represent their region at the National Final in Auckland.
We recommend bands enter now to ensure a placement at their nearest venue.
Entry process
- Bands enter online at http://www.battleofthebands.co.nz/
- After online registration, bands are placed into a heat at a venue nearest their location.
- Heats & semi-finals will run throughout April & May, with regional finals held in early June, cumulating with the National Final at the end of June.
Prizes
As well as gaining national attention, the winning band will receive a bevy of prizes including:
- Recording time at NZ's premier recording facility York Street Studios
- Musical equipment from Jansen, Allen & Heath and Audio Technica
- Live appearances
- Converse Shoes
- And more exciting prizes still to be announced
Venues
The country's best Live Music Venues will host Battle of the Bands events.
2013 venues: Juice Bar & The Kings Arms in Auckland, Brewers Bar in Mount Maunganui, Bodega in Wellington, The Venue Music Bar in Christchurch and more venues around the country to be announced real soon.
On the Night
At the weekly live shows, several bands will each play a 20 - 30 minute set to impress the audience & judging panel, with the winner's progressing to the next level of the competition.
This is the real deal, genuine NZ Battle of the Bands that has helped the careers of many well known NZ artists, including OpShop, Tadpole & Blindspott to name just a few.
