Music News - New Year, New Faces At Sounz

New Year, New Faces At Sounz

07 February 2013 - 0 Comments

SOUNZ, the Centre for New Zealand Music, is welcoming the new year with new staff. In January, Delia Shanly took up the role of Communications and Marketing Manager and Karlo Margetic as Office Assistant. Late last year SOUNZ appointed Jim Rush as Business Administrator.

Charitable Trust SOUNZ is a music information centre that promotes the music of New Zealand composers. It runs an extensive collection of recordings, scores, and audiovisual resources available online to view, loan or purchase at sounz.org.nz. SOUNZ is a key champion of New Zealand music, encouraging it's performance, capture and broadcast around the globe.

Delia Shanly sees her new role as "connecting people with New Zealand music experiences. It'll be so exciting to help people explore and discover the SOUNZ collection. It is such a rich and unique cultural resource.” Championing New Zealand artistic endeavours isn't new to Delia, who recently managed Film Wellington. Previously Delia worked as an event manager and promoter while her early career was as a professional musician and composer.

She was a drummer and percussionist for a variety of groups ranging from orchestras, e.g. New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, to jazz and rock bands. Karlo Margetic has helped out at the centre since last July, but is thrilled to be offered a permanent Office Assistant role. “As the first point of call for customers, by email, phone and in person, I work the front desk at the SOUNZ office in Wellington’s Toi Poneke Art Centre.” says Karlo. “I have a wide knowledge and passion for music that I look forward to sharing with our clients".

Karlo is currently Emerging Composer in Residence with Orchestra Wellington and had held a number of residencies including Young Composer in Residence with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

New Business Administrator Jim Rush arrived at SOUNZ after working for other charitable organisations. Previously at Wellington’s BATS theatre and the New Zealand International Film Festival, Jim is glad to put his business skills to work alongside a life-long enthusiasm for music.

“I’ve played piano since school and have been a concert promoter for seven years, “ says Jim “which are both useful when talking with SOUNZ suppliers and customers. They can tell I understand the music industry and their environment.”

"We are delighted with the latest additions to our team." says Julie Sperring, SOUNZ Executive Director. "It’s energising to bring in fresh blood with new ideas, new skills, and new networks. Watch out for a refreshed approach from SOUNZ in 2013."

SOUNZ receives major funding from Creative New Zealand, NZ On Air, the Lilburn Trust, APRA and through PPNZ.
