The driving rhythmical talent behind Electric Wire Hustle steps out to present 2 unique performances in the Auckland area.
“The future of drums in NZ is firmly in the hands of Myele Manzanza.” - NZ Musician Magazine
This may seem a lofty statement but this young talent has already enjoyed an impressive career behind the drum kit. For the past 4 years he has been traveling the globe with Wellington's acclaimed soul & beats trio, Electric Wire Hustle and he has also performed and recorded alongside some of our best including The Recloose Live Band, Olmecha Supreme, The Jonathan Crayford Trio, Deva Mahal and more.
After being selected as NZ's sole representative at the 2010 Red Bull Music Academy in London, Myele wielded the knowledge he acquired from the tutelage of such masters as Flying Lotus, Roots Manuva, Cluster, Moodyman, Dr Peter Zinovieff and DJ Zinc and crafted his first solo album, ONE.
Now taking a precious break from his international touring schedule Myele is able to present two different sides of his musical persona in Auckland and Leigh with two unique performances.
As anyone close to him will know, Myele has a deep passion for Jazz music. Since graduating in 2008 from the NZ School Of Music with a degree in Jazz Performance this passion has not diminished and in recent years has led to considerable time clocked up in New York studying with E.J. Strickland (Ravi Coltrane, Marcus Strickland, Jacky Terrasson) and performing alongside the likes of Roy Hargrove, Joe Sanders and Eric Wyatt at all the famous Jazz haunts that great city offers. Myele and his trio now also host their own jam session in Wellington - 'The Session'.
On Wednesday 20th of March, for the first time in Auckland Myele will give Aucklanders an opportunity to see a side of himself that has rarely been witnessed live outside of Wellington when he performs within a Jazz context with his trio at CJC (Creative Jazz Club, 1885 Britomart). Performing originals and standards with a few surprises alongside two other young outstanding talents coming out of Wellington – Scott Maynard on Double Bass and Daniel Hayles on Keys.
Then on Friday 22nd Myele will assemble his all-star line up 'The Eclectic' at Leigh Sawmill. Featuring Funkommunity's Rachel Fraser and Marika Hodgson and Wellington's queen of funk & soul, Bella Kalolo. Myele Manzanza & The Eclectic will take Myele's album, ONE for spin in a high energy, groove & dance floor oriented set. Myele Manzanza & The Eclectic recently wowed German audiences as part of NZs performance contingent at the Frankfurt Museumsuferfest Country Of Honour festivities and they're excited to bring the party to Leigh Sawmill with support from Auckland's favourite beats DJ Cian.
