They Might Be Giants - first NZ shows since 2001

19 March 2013 - 0 Comments

They Might Be Giants are very excited to announce they’ll return to New Zealand for the first time since 2001 to play shows in Wellington and Auckland.

Wellington - Friday 17th May, Bodega

Auckland - Saturday 18th May, The Studio

Tickets are on sale now and are only $65+bf
available from ticketmaster.co.nz, undertheradar.co.nz and the venues.

They Might Be Giants are basically the Two Johns - John Linnell on keyboards and accordion and John Flansburgh on guitar. They formed in Brooklyn, New York, which provided the perfect environment for them.

“If you’re into experimental wig design, or fringe-y rock stuff, New York is a place where you can find a community where you don’t feel like a weirdo,” (Flansburgh)

They have spent half their life together in the Giants, and have been responsible for some of the finest nerd rock of the past two decades.

Catchy melodies are delivered with a knowing wink & a sly bit of humor, that never crosses over into self-parody.

Their current live act showcases their extensive catalogue of crowd favourites. Birdhouse In Your Soul, Ana Ng, Particle Man, Istanbul (Not Constantinople), The Guitar, Don’t Lets Start, Statue Got Me High, Doctor Worm. Also listen out for them premiering highlights from the new album Nanobots.

There’s so much more to They Might Be Giants than the quirky nature of their songs might suggest. Live, this is a band that saturates their audiences with pure joy.

“not a foot in the place was still, nor a head in the crowd not a-bobbing.”

Once called “the best band you’ve never seen” Get in quick to join us at a gig highlight for 2013. They might be Giants, but they are a lay down misère to sell out!
